Connecticut does not have a lot of laws that are specific to portable x-ray machines, but in this case, the radiation program covers everything you need to know.

X-ray License in Connecticut

In order to operate a machine in Connecticut, techs must have successful completion of a course of study in radiologic technology. It must be accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), or a course deemed equivalent to such an accredited program by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Here is the full list of radiology licensure requirements for the state of Connecticut.

Registering an X-ray Device

Connecticut conducts a registration and inspection program of medical x-ray machines to ensure that:

  • Exposure is at safe levels for everyone
  • Facilities are in compliance with Connecticut regulations
  • Exposure is kept as low as reasonably achievable

You must register all diagnostic and therapeutic x-ray devices prior to use and biennially thereafter. You must also re-register when there is a change in the number or location of devices. The registration fee is $190.00 per x-ray device.

Regulations for Portable X-ray Equipment

There are no specific laws dedicated to portable equipment, but here are some references for x-ray research in general:

Sections 22a-148 through 22a-158 of the Connecticut General Statutes (CGS)
